The MR 32 rain gauge operates on the basisof a tipping bucket mechanism. The bucket is available in capacities that correspond with preci- pitation of 0.2 mm. The bucket assembly acts as a seesaw. As soon as the upper bucket is full, the lower “empty” bucket is lifted to be filled, while the lower bucket is drained. The tipping bucketpivots on bearings which minimizes friction andwear. Each tip generates an electrical impulse. The total precipitation during a certain period of time equals the number of impulses multiplied by the contents of the bucket used multiplied by a constant. The rain gauge is designed for accura- te operation with trouble-free service.
