in a place where the label Is clearly
visible, before somebody can look
into the beam. Laser radiation is so
weak, that the human eye will not
be hurt, while the closing reflex will
prevent further damage to the retina.
Looking to the diffuse reflected laser
light is not dangerous. Follow the
safety instructions:
•Do not stare into the beam
•Do not stare into beam reflections
on shiny surfaces
•Only authorised personal may
open the sensor
Accuracy
Difference between real distance and measured distance. Accuracy includes all errors ofthe measurement like linearity, resolution, noise, drift thermal growth of sensor head and mounting.
Measurement frequency
Reciprocal value of reaction time, also known as "bandwith". The measurement frequency specified by MEL specifies, which frequency of mechanical change ofthe object will be translated into a corresponding electrical output signal. MEL has sensors with a bandwith from 0.1 up to 500 kHz. To achieve the measurement frequency at the output, the internal sampling frequency must be (theoretically) minimum 2 x the highest measurement frequency.
For MEL sensors, the sampling frequency is 4 x measurement frequency (exception M500).
Light intensity
The intensity ofthe diffuse reflected spot creates a signal in the sensor proportional to the intensity or brightness of the spot. This signal is an indicator of "how good is this mesurement". The intensity signal is fast, and can change from one spot to the next within milliseconds. This can help to recognise small changes in a surface, like scratches, weld seams or other artefacts, which will not create a change in the distance output signal.
Linearity
Difference between the actual measurement and the ideal curve. Linearity is specified in % of total measurement range, or in absolute values.
Shutter time
Defines Laser on time for appropriate measurement. Shorter shutter time gives better measurement results for moving targets.
