Can you recall 1961? Maybe you can

remember the Berlin Wall being built or

John F. Kennedy being elected as the

35th President of the United States.

1961 was not just an extremely eventful

period in political times, but it was also a

year of innovation and progress: (Bayer)

Schering launched the contraceptive

pill onto the European market, Heinrich

Matthaei, a German biochemist, disco-

vered the genetic code and the Russian

cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin completed the

first manned space flight in his space-

craft Vostok.

Back on Earth, another chapter in the

history of technology was being writ-

ten in 1961 with the establishment of

Interelectric AG in Sarnen, the main

town in the canton of Obwalden, Central

Switzerland . 50 years on, this company

is now called maxon motor. Your partner

for customized drive solutions.

50 years of maxon motor

50 years of maxon, that means 50 years

of partnership. Above all, I would like

to thank our customers for giving us a

constant stream of new challenges that

have enabled us to keep on growing for

over half a century. Since it was founded,

maxon motor has focused on conti-

nuous, solid growth. This has been pay-

ing off since 1961, especially in difficult

economic times.

But you will also find endurance in our

products, firstly in their characteristics,

such as long service life and reliabili-

ty, but secondly in the fact that we are

always improving them. This year, for

instance, we have improved the perfor-

mance of the EC 16 and EC 40 drives.

The short versions of the brushless

EC 16 motors can now also be sterilized.

And in electronics, the new EPOS2 24/2

with interpolated position mode (PVT)

replaces the EPOS 24/1.

We are proud of the fact that our drives

are used around the world and in all

different fields of application. It is not just

medical and industrial companies that

rely on our drive systems - even space

organizations are increasingly using

maxon motor products, such as in Mars

rovers, space probes and satellites.
