Product catalog summary
Overview
Modulevel pneumatic liquid level controls are displacement-actuated sensors designed for stability and adaptability in extreme conditions. They provide output signals proportional to liquid level changes and feature a modular design.
Features
  • Operates in temperatures from -150 to +700 °F and pressures up to 4265 PSIG.
  • Stable output unaffected by surface turbulence, enhancing valve longevity.
  • Controller head is removable without disturbing the pressure boundary.
  • Simple calibration methods and accurate output across a wide specific gravity range.
  • 360° rotating controller head for easy pneumatic piping hookup.
  • Constructed with 316 SS displacer and trim, with options for Inconel and Hastelloy.
  • Optional features include pneumatic-to-current interface transducer, proportional plus integral control, differential gap control, and high-low electronic alarm signal.
Applications
Used in utility power generation, chemical, and petroleum processing operations, including steam generator feedwater heater regulation, fractionating column level transmission, and boiler level control.
Specifications
  • Process pressure: Up to 4265 PSIG at 100 °F.
  • Process temperature: -150 to +700 °F.
  • Specific gravity range: 0.11 to 2.20.
  • Interface detection requires a minimum difference of 0.10 specific gravity between liquids.
  • Process connections: NPT, Socket Weld, or Flanged.
  • Supply pressure: Instrument quality air, regulator set to 5 PSIG above maximum output.
  • Output: Proportional & 3–15 PSIG, 6–30 PSIG signal transmitter pressure.
  • Air consumption: 3 SCFH at 9 PSIG output, 6 SCFH at 15 PSIG output.
Principle of Operation
The Modulevel control uses magnetic coupling to isolate the controller from the sensing unit. The displacer’s motion, dampened by a range spring, is transferred to a rotating cam, which adjusts a flapper against a nozzle, modulating the pneumatic relay’s pressure.
Mounting Arrangements
  • Flanged top models for top mounting, suitable for interface control applications.
  • External cage models for easy isolation from the process.
  • Side mounted models for narrow level range applications.
Options
  • Filter regulator and gauge for correct pressure operation.
  • Adjustable hangar for flanged top-mounting models.
  • Special process connections for retrofit applications.
  • P/I converters for electronic control applications.
Model Number Construction
Modulevel controls are identified by a ten-digit alphanumeric model numbering system, describing model configuration, materials, level ranges, and options.
Quality Assurance and Warranty
Magnetrol guarantees its products against defects for five years from the date of shipment and adheres to ISO 9001 standards, ensuring high-quality products and services.
Conclusion
This document serves as a comprehensive guide for selecting and understanding the specifications of Magnetrol's pneumatic instruments and controls, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in various industrial applications.

APM Pneumatic Modulevel®-1

Modulevel® Pneumatic and APM Liquid Level Control Modulevel pneumatic liquid level controls are displacement actuated level sensors that provide output signals in direct proportion to changes in liquid level. Simple modular design and the Magnetrol proven magnetic coupling make Modulevel controls versatile, highly stable, vibration resistant and adaptable to extremes in temperature and pressure. Features • Standard models handle service temperatures from -150 to +700 °F (-101 to +371 °C) and pressure to 4265 PSIG (318 Bar). • Stable output signal is unaffected by surface turbulence. Prevents control valve “hunting” and extends valve life. • Controller head may be removed without disturbing pressure boundary. Permits service or replacement without shutdown of process. • Simple calibration prior to installation, by substituting weights for displacer or by controller head calibration with displacer. • Accurate output signal provided over a wide specific gravity range. • Controller head rotates 360°, simplifies pneumatic piping hookup. • 316 SS displacer and trim. Inconel & 316SS range springs. (Consult factory for Hastelloy displacer.) • Easily calibrated without moving tank liquid level, for reduced installation time and cost. • Pilot relay provides a 4 to 1 amplification of pilot pressure signal to speed value response. • Built-in visual level indicator is independent of air supply. • Optional pneumatic-tocurrent interface transducer for use in electronic control applications. • Optional proportional plus integral control. • Optional differential gap (on-off) control. • Optional High-Low electronic alarm signal provides inexpensive backup alarm. • Fabricated construction. Applications Modulevel pneumatic liquid level controls are widely used in utility power generation, chemical and petroleum processing operations, such as: • Steam generator feedwater heater regulation • Vent gas scrubber level control • Fractionating column level transmitter • Drip pot condensate level control • Ethanolamine level transmitter • Flash tank level transmitter • Boiler lev

Zero adjustment The key elements of the Modulevel pneumatic control are the magnetic coupling, which allows the controller to be mechanically isolated from the sealed sensing unit; the range spring, which dampens the action of the displacer; and the controller head, which provides a modulated pneumatic signal in direct proportion to the input from the vertical motion of the displacer. As the liquid level in the vessel increases or decreases, the buoyant displacer rises or falls. This motion, dampened by the action of the range spring to prevent response to the rapid fluctuations of turbulence,...

Mounting arrangements Modulevel® pneumatic instruments Flanged top P51, P61 and P62 displacer models Modulevel pneumatic instruments are available in a variety of functions and styles to handle different application requirements. For mounting on top of the tank, flanged top models are available. They are used extensively in interface control applications where non-standard size displacers become necessary. An adjustable stainless steel displacer suspension cable is also available. Top mounting models are directly interchangeable with the external cage models. Choose from carbon steel or stainless...

Expedite ship plan (ESP) Model number construction Many standard Modulevel pneumatic level controls are available for quick shipment, usually within one week after factory receipt of a purchase order, through the Expedite Ship Plan (ESP). Models covered by ESP service are conveniently color coded in the selection data charts which follow. To take advantage of ESP, simply match color coded model number codes and options (standard dimensions apply). ESP service may not apply to orders of ten units or more. Contact your local representative for lead times on larger volue orders as well as other...
