2 Structure, standards and quality LASTO®BLOCKelastomericbearingsareconstructedinlayers.Thismeansthattheyconsistofalternatinglayersofelastomerandsteelplates.Thesealternatingmaterialsarechemicallyfusedthroughaprocessofvulcanisation,duringwhichtherubberadherestothereinforcementsheetsinsuchawayastomaketheunitresistanttoshearandpressure. Structure ThemagebaLASTO®BLOCKfunctionsprimarilyasanelastic,loadtransmittinglinkbetweenconstructionelementswhichneedtobeconnectedinsuchawayastoallowadegreeofmovement.Verticalloadsfromthestructureitselfandtrafficloadsaretransmittedwithoutconstraintintothebearingseat.Accelerationanddecelerationforcesfromtrafficload,windforcesandcentrifugalforcesarealsoefficientlyabsorbedbythebearings,aswellasforcesarisingfromskewedmovementsofadjacentstructuralelements. Thematerialsusedandthestructuralcompositionofthebearingsmeanthattheyareabletoaccommodatemovementsresultingfromtemperaturedifferncesbetweenconstructionelements.Rotationalforcesfromtheskewedarrangementofstructuralcomponentsareabsorbedbyelasticdeformationaroundtwohorizontalaxes. Functioning principles Theelastomerisamacromolecularmaterialwhichdemonstratesconsiderabledeformationatlowloadandwhichreturnstoitsinitialsizeandshapewhnthisloadisremoved. Steelplatesarevulcanised(chemicallyjoined)intotheelastomerinordertostrengthenit. LASTO®BLOCKelastomericbearingsareavailableinsyntheticchloroprenerubber(CR)orinthemoreeconomicnaturalrubber(NR)withozonelevel“0”inaccordancewithEN1337. Materials and loads TheLASTO®BLOCKelastomericbearingdescribedinthisdocumentconformswiththeEuropeanstandardEN1337-3andhassuccessfullypassedalltestsrequiredforcertificationwiththeCEmark. Inadditiontointernalqualitycontrol,LASTO®BLOCKelastomericbearingsarealsoregularlymonitoredinaccordancewithregulationsbyMPAStuttgart,anindependentsupervisoryboardofficiallyrecognisedinthefieldofconstruction.TheroleofexternalqualitycontrolistomonitorinternalqualitycontrolproceduresandcompliancewiththerequirementsstipulatedintheEN13373standard.ThisexternalqualitycontrolcomplieswiththeregulationsoftheEuropeanstandardEN1337andisafurtherguaranteeoftheconsistenthighqualityfmagebaproducts. Dependingonscope,LASTO®BLOCKelastomericbearingsarealsoavailableonrequestwithcertificationaccordingtootherstandards,forexampleDIN4141,BS5400,AASHTO,etc. Standards and external quality control magebaLASTO®BLOCKelastomericbearingshavebeentriedandtestedunderdemandingtrafficconditionsandhavealonglife-span.Theyhavebeenusedsuccessfullyaroundtheworldformorethan40years. Qualifiedpersonnel,up-to-dateproductionlinesandtestinglaboratories,andqualitycontrolateverystageofthemanufacturingprocessallhelpguaranteethehighqualityofmagebaproducts.
