The lower axis moves the object carrier over a transillumination unit. The upper axis, which is perpendicular to the lower axis, carries the focusing device with the optical sensors. The functional separation of the two axes enables optimal layout of the installation and provides the highest accuracy. Guidance is provided by air bearings on high-precision granite paths. Each axis has a high-resolution linear measuring system with an exact reference point. The scanning of the objects to be measured is performed by two video cameras and telecentric objectives. The focusing device is a carriage guided by no-play, pre-stressed precision rollers. The use of two objectives provides two magnifications with different fields of vision and resolutions. One enables a quick check to be made (e.g. for completeness) and the other can make an exact measurement with high resolution. The illumination is provided by a flash synchronised with the image acquisition of the camera. The motors are controlled by a 3-axis controller on the basis of the LPKF MotionSystemŪ universal and modular device controller. Expansions are possible if the system is integrated into a technological environment. The measuring installation offers two methods of working: 1. Scan mode In this mode, the entire object or partial area is recorded and then compared with the reference data. Deviations are made available in a database for any type of further processing. The operator can home in on all faulty structures and assess them. This mode of operation enables, e.g., a fast check of the completeness of laser-cut plates. 2. Measuring mode In this mode, all or selected objects can be approached in sequence, and processed by a previously learnt measuring program. All the functions of the software can be accessed in this mode of operation, and high-precision geometrical measurements are possible. General Description
