The smuggling and counterfeit trade is worth billions of dollars a year, and affects products as diverse as alcohol and cigarettes, pharmaceuticals, software and music. Manufacturers of high-value products are looking for ways to combat this threat. In addition, many manufacturers are looking for effective and unobtrusive ways to track products throughout the production and packaging processes. Now, two discreet inks are available from Linx, to help companies meet these challenges, using the versatility of continuous ink jet printing. Linx Clear UV-readable ink 1121 and Linx Clear security ink 3160 have been developed for discreet coding applications such as anti-counterfeiting or internal traceability. The inks are nearly invisible in normal light but fluoresce, blue and red respectively, under UV light. The distinctive red colour of Linx Clear security ink 3160 is achieved using a unique red dye, making imitation of the code even more difficult. Both inks are fast drying and water resistant once dry. Linx Clear UV-readable ink 1121 can be removed with an alkali solution for container re-use.
