Dimensioning Geared motors/gearboxes

Operating mode S1 (EN 60034)Operating mode S2 (EN 60034) Short-term operation S2 Operation with constantload, butthe motor does not reach the thermal steady state. The motor winding coolsdown to the ambienttemperature again during the subsequentstandstill. The power increase depends on the load duration. Continuous operation S1 Operation with constantload until the motor reachesthe thermal steady state. The motor may be operated continuously atits ratedpower.

M L , v, θ Intermittentoperation S3 Sequence of identical cycles thatcombine to give operation with constantload and a subsequentstandstill.Start-up and braking operations have no influence on the winding temperature. The steady state is notreached. The guide values apply to a cycle duration of 10 minutes. The power increase depends on the cycle duration and the ratio of the load time to the down-time.
M L Intermittentload S6 Sequence of identical cycles thatcombine to give operation with constantload and a subsequentidle state. The motor cools down during the idle phase. Start-up andbraking operations have no influence on the winding temperature. The steady state is notreached. The guide values apply to a cycle duration of 10 minutes. The power increase depends on the cycle duration andthe ratio of the load time to the idle time.
