The DFO900 micro processor controlled polishing machine is part of the continued development by Lapmaster International of a unique system that incorporates the latest design concepts enabling the machine to achieve the highest component specifictaion criteria on Plano-optic and electro-optic materials.
The machine consists of a welded steel base housing the bottom plate, carrier assembly and top head gantry, including all associated drive and control systems. All structures are designed to provide high rigidity and stiffness, while the machine layout isolates the work area from the heat and vibration sources.
The bottom plate is mounted directly to the base frame via taper roller bearings providing excellent radial and axial support, selected to give a maintenance free life.
The carrier unit is mounted to height adjustable blocks on the base structure enabling the unit to be raised and lowered to suit function.
The carrier itself rotates on its own axis (0 - 60 rpm), via a slewing ring, while being subjected to a translation that results in the workpiece being set off centre to the workplates. The translation can be time dependent and is set via the control system, using a dxf file.

The gantry unit houses the top work plate and drive system. Whilst in stand by the gantry is swung away from the bottom plate to allow easy loading and unloadingof the workpiece in addition to providing access to allow pad replacement. On commencement of the process cycle the gantry traverses above the bottom workplate and then lowers on to the work piece.
Top and bottom workplates are 900mm diameter and water cooled to maintain optimum and consistent work conditions. They have a speed range of 10 - 100 rpm with the ability to apply a pressure of up to 1000Kg that is continuously monitored via a closed loop load cell.
|
Polishing compound is supplied through a central hole on the top and bottom workplates, with independent flow rates selected via the control system. As an additional option, slurry can be supplied to the edges of the workplates to wet the workpiece when it passes off the workplates. the slurry is collated into a plastic trough reducing contamination and drained back into the compound supply.
The control system has a variable timer and allows time profiles to be entered for all machine variables allowing complete control of the process at various stages in the cycle.
|
The whole machine is fully enclosed by CE compliant reinforced transparent guards that are interlocked with the control system to provide a safe, clean operating environment.
The unit is designed for minimal maintenance with all consumable parts easily sourced and directly accessible, minimising down time
