In 1995, KROHNE introduced the first TDR device, which was able to reliably determine both the level and the separating layers. This in- novation benefits not only the food and beverage industry, but also the water and wastewater sector, the oil and gas sectors and the paper and pulp industry.In 2000, we developed the BM 702, the first FMCW device in a 2-conductor design. This maintenance-free device replaces switches, displacement elements, ultrasonic devices and pressure transmitters and measures the distance, level and volume of liquids, pastes and sludges with a high degree of accuracy and reproducibility.The next quantum leap in the field of contact-free level measurement came in 2004 with the OPTIWAVE/OPTIFLEX family of products. With these products, KROHNE not only revolutionized level measure- ment for complex applications involving foam or moving surfaces, but also introduced a new op-erating concept, which provides the user with op-tions from start-up to the process control.
