CoDeSys is more than an IEC 61131-3 program-ming system. CoDeSys is a mighty software tool for the automation industry, which covers many typical tasks in the field of plant and machine construction. Especially, CoDeSys offers a range of open interfaces for external software systems:

Multi user operation for writing an application program High performance development Due to intelligent algorithms, large projects can be performed in surprisingly short compiling time. Useful development functions are provided: almost all IEC 61131-3 data types, offline simulation, breakpoints, single stepping, powerflow, industrial sampling trace, and online change.
Open POU pool, which all projects can share IEC61131-3 generates an XML description from the visualization information. This is sent to the controller combined with a Java applet. The visualization data then is available online on all kinds of client systems, via TCP/IP and a browser. For testing the visualization, or for diagnostic purposes, an additional tool is not needed! The programming interface is used for commu- nication, so that additional OPC configuration is not needed. For controllers with a display, the visualization information can be turned into IEC 61131-3 code and then compiled with the appropriate code generator.
