KNF developed a double-diaphragm systemfor applications with elevated safety require- ments. This patented, proven design includes a safety diaphragm under the working diaphragm.The safety diaphragm is configured in such away that it is subjected to very low mechani- cal loads while the pump is in operation. As a result, even in the unlikely case that the work- ing diaphragm should leak, no gas will be able to leave the pump. The closed space between the two diaphragms can be moni- tored so that any damage to the working diaphragm is detected immediately.
11 12 All gas pumps from KNF Neuberger exhibit good gas-tightness(leak rates no higher than 6 x 10
-3 mbar l/sec.). SupplementaryO-rings reduce the leak rate even further to 6 x 10
