Measuring Wheel - RoaDyn® V6F1
The RoaDyn V6F1 6-component wheel force sensor has become a highly accepted development tool for various Formula 1 racing teams. The sensor is used in a modified racing rim and mounted on the front or rear axle of a car as a complete wheel. It measures the three forces (Fx, Fy and Fz) and the three torque values (Mx, My and Mz) acting on the spinning wheel as the car is driven. The sensor is used exclusively on F1 race cars on test tracks and on (for example, flat track) test stands.
The RoaDyn V6F1 is fitted with a one-piece titanium sensor and largely meets the strength, mass and moment of inertia requirements imposed on the standard wheel. The wheel force sensor is suitable for use on the cars of different racing teams. The wheel forces and torque values are measured with strain gages in the webs of the body of the sensor and amplified in the wheel electronics. The offsets of the individual full bridges of the strain gages can be calibrated automatically. A slip ring unit with integral angle encoder transmits the unconverted analog signals to the data acquisition system. The transformation into a coordinate system fixed relative to the
vehicle is done offline after the measurement, using a special program provided by Kistler.
