Accessories To achieve optimum measuring results, the force sensor must be correctly installed, and the output signal properly transmitted. To meet these requirements, it is essential to use original Kistler accessories. While the extreme rigidity of piezoelectric force sensors gives them a high natural frequency, it also necessitates close attention to detail when they are fitted. The mechanical stresses in the sensor element must never exceed the permissible limit and peak stresses must be avoided. Similar care is required with preloading, taking into account the need, for example, to allow for all sensor loads or, where shear forces are transmitted by stiction, to ensure maximum rigidity through closure of the micro-fissures between the sensor and the force-inducing components. The measuring ranges of Kistler sensors are specified in such a way as to minimize the risk of breakage. Calibrated load washers are supplied with a tried-and-tested mounting kit. High-strength preloading elements should be used for higher preload forces. In principle, multi-component force sensors should be fitted only with the preloading elements specified. Thanks to Kistler's specially designed mechanical mounting accessories, force sensors can be fitted even under difficult conditions. Where sensors are fitted into dynamometers, the base plate and cover plate construction must be rigid enough to ensure that a point force does not lead to any excessive bending of the cover plate and that the sensor is not overloaded on one side. Original Kistler connecting cables should be used between the piezoelectric sensor and the charge amplifier. These special coaxial cables satisfy all the requirements for high insulation resistance, low frictional electricity, low capacitance, high screening factor and wide temperature range. Various types of connector are available for laboratory or industrial applications. Kistler also offers multi-core cables in various versions for multi-component force measurement, as well as special boxes for distributing or summing charge signals. www.kistler.com 51
