® KENNAMETAL/BalaDyne TABS Total Automatic Balancing System
Description of System System Operation A balancing ring system is installed on the toolholder along with a controller at the operator’s
workstation. The stationary coil system in the
tower is mounted on the machine bench. The balancing ring system, which rotates withthe tool holder, contains two counterweight
rotors which are designed to correct the
vibrations on the tool holder. The rotors are
held in place by
permanent magnets manufacturer and
move only if programmed to do so. The rotors
can withstand extremely high speeds and high
levels of vibration without shifting position. The position of the counterweight rotors is
determined by the vibration of the tool holder.
For example, if the counterweight rotors are
positioned opposite one another, no correction
is required. If they are positioned adjacent to
one another, maximum correction is carried
out. Different levels of vibration correction can
be achieved by altering the position of the
counterweight rotors. The stationary coil
system in the tower sends electrical signals to
the counterweight rotors, thereby generating a
magnetic pulse, which alters the position of
the rotors to achieve an optimum operating
state. Vibration is corrected within fractions of
a second, whilst the tool holder is rotating. The
magnetic pulse is transmitted across an air
gap, so there is no magnetic connection
between the balancing ring system on the tool
holder and the stationary coil system. >
