SM Winch - The Comprehe n

Optional rope guide

The Spacemaker SM Winchfrom KCI Konecranes providesa lifting solution for any in-dustry and every crane serviceclassification. Thanks to KCIKonecranes’ technology, serial production and strict qualitycontrol procedures, the SMWinch is highly reliable and easy to maintain, especially asthe principle of “fewer partsmeans fewer faults” is careful-ly followed throughout its de-sign and production. The SM Winch series in-cludes 6 basic sizes. SM600-900 Winches are suited forboth general and process use;SM1000 and SM1100Winches are for general use.The load range is up to 400tons, or 800 tons if usedin tandem.

Trolley frame structure A rugged rope guide ensures properrope winding on the drum. Adjustable upper and lower limit switches are actu-ated by the rope guide. Process limitswitches can be easily added. A robust, precision-machined trolleyframe meets the most stringent qualitystandards. Fatigue analysis of the struc- ture has led to a unique design of themachinery support arrangement thateliminates internal stresses.

Flange-mounted machinery fora compact hoisting unit To minimize space requirementsand reduce supporting structures, flange-mounted motorsand live axle enclosed transmissionsare used throughout. Fewer parts and a smallerstructure reduces trolley weight. Furthermore, maintenance is reduced and the need for a lar- ge supply of spares is avoided. In the production of SM Winches, the de-sign principle of “fewer parts - fewer faults” iscarefully followed. Monitoring reduces downtime An integral element of the SM Winch is KCI Ko-necranes’ Safe Working Monitor (SWM). Thiscollects data on the actual use of each key com-ponent. This data can be used to program, inadvance, needed maintenance work, thus sig- nificantly reducing down-time. In addition to thealarms provided by the SWM, it also registersthe actual loading spectrum and calculates theremaining theoretical safe working time accor-ding to the FEM classification.

Load sensor Direct measuring from the load beamprovides reliable data for safety systemsand maintenance monitoring.

Stepless speeds enhance safety The SM Winch is specially designed to utilize modern control systems such as KCI Konecra-nes DynAC and DynAHoist frequency conver-ters for crane duty. The latest vectorial speedcontrol technology ensures close coordinationbetween the drives and the operator. Built-in safety features minimize both the risk of acci- dents and the possibility of winch abuse. Range of automation options The SM Winch allows many other operatingcapabilities to be fully integrated into the pro- cess: optional hook levelling, synchronization, electronic anti-swing, or full automation undera material inventory or production control sys-tem.

Redundant rope reeving Hoists are double-reeved using twoseparate ropes, from 2 parts to 16 partsdepending on capacity. Ropes are selected according to FEM standards.Elimination of reverse bends minimizesrope wear. Stable positioning of theload is attained with true vertical lift.Accessible rope dead ends allow the two ropes to be easily adjusted andreplaced. Upper safety limit switch An additional counterweight type emer-gency limit switch is a common optionfor process duty. The limit is actuated by the hook block and can be reset ma-nually or (optionally) automatically.
