9 There’s more than one way to move granular material. You can vacuum it, or you can blow it. Kongskilde of Bloomington, Illinois, builds a pneumatic material-handling system that can actually do both. The Kongskilde SCU1000DTR is a self-contained, mobile pneumatic system that can vacuum or blow everything from grain to pelletized plastic to paper scraps. Kongskilde recently introduced the new pneumatic system in response to the ethanol industry’s need for a mobile grain-transfer system that could be towed by truck between ethanol facilities. The rig is self-contained, complete with its own PowerTech E 4045H that drives a high-power, five-rotor fan, making the SCU1000DTR capable of moving up to 81 metric tons (3,200 bu.) of corn per hour. It also has the power and hose to discharge product vertically up to 27 meters (90 ft.), making it possible to unload product into tall structures, such as grain bins and silos. And did we mention it’s quieter, too? “Our machine is one of the quieter vacuums because it uses a fan system rather than a positive-displacement pump. We’re also happy with the quietness of the John Deere engine.” Superior Diesel supplies the PowerTech E 4045H engine as a complete power unit with a Funk Series 28000 single-pad pump drive. “Superior Diesel provides the engine and pump drive as a complete assembly,” explains Tyler Rhode, grain sales supervisor. “They build a sheet-metal enclosure and paint it to the color scheme of our machines. We set the power unit in the machine, hook up the fuel lines, and it’s ready to go.” Product reliability and name recognition rank as important reasons why Kongskilde chose John Deere engines and pump drives for its new machine. But customer access to the John Deere dealer network was a calling card, too. “We wanted a power source that is easily accessible for users,” says Tyler. “That support network makes our product more user-friendly and easier to sell.” Versatile vacuum Kongskilde’s new mobile pneumatic system makes fast, easy work of moving grain and small materials PowerSource Funk Pump Drive Model 28000 Number of pads 1 Max input power 242 kW (325 hp) Max input torque 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) Input configuration Clutch driven Emissions Cert.
