The tip of the screwdriver will force the ball or tip of the plunger below the surface of the end of the plunger. This may compress the spring to a solid, causing possible damage to the spring plunger. It is recommended that a Jergens Plunger Wrench be used or that a slot be ground in the end of a screwdriver to clear the height of the ball or tip for each size ball or plunger used.
