Lasers for Diverse Applications
3
Biohazard Detection
For early detection of bio-agents, we offer unique passively Q-switched UV lasers
that stimulate the native fluorescence of bio-agents. Our red helium-neon gas
lasers or green diode pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers can be used to cause dye
fluorescence and positively identify agents.
Biotechnology Instrumentation
Our argon-ion and helium-neon gas lasers and frequency converted continuous
wave (CW) and pulsed DPSS lasers are used for applications such as DNA
sequencing and flow cytometry that involve exciting the fluorescence of dyes or
natural fluorescence of biological molecules.
Materials Processing
JDSU fiber lasers, diode-pumped solid-state lasers, and IR diode lasers are
designed for bending, cutting, and soldering of components and other related
applications that require a small, focused beam and high power density.
Micromachining
We offer several lasers for applications such as low heat-affected zone welding,
precision cutting, and high-security marking. Our Industrial Fiber Laser is aircooled,
keeping floor space and utility requirements to a minimum.
Precision Marking
We have lasers for direct product marking to enable quality tracking and identification.
The JDSU Industrial Fiber Laser makes the least intrusive, most precise
marks possible, allowing marking depths less than 10 microns with linewidths
approaching 15 microns.
Semiconductor Inspection
We’re leading the development of lasers used for inspection with ultra-stable single
frequency continuous wave and Quasi-CW systems. These lasers are ideal for
high speed wafer inspection and give OEMs the ability to quickly detect nanometer
scale defects and contamination.
Semiconductor Materials Processing
JDSU has a broad range of lasers for processing, including solid-state CW and
passively Q-switched DPSS lasers as well as air-cooled argon-ion and heliumneon
gas lasers . Their excellent spectrum purity, near diffraction-limited beam
quality, and low-noise performance make them the key optical sources for diagnosis
and yield enhancement applications, including wafer and mask inspection,
thin film metrology, and PCB/LCD/PDP panel inspection.
