Picture: nanoStar sensor and digitalisation unit nanoStar is a contact-free measurement system which evaluates the mangnetic structures of a metal measuring rod with three coded tracks to calculate the absolute position.Due to the special construction of this gauge, nanoStar achives a precision previously only possible with optical systems. nanoStar has transferred the position resolu- tion of magnetic measurement systems from the µm range to the nm reange.The nanoStar measurement system consists of the components: sensor head, digitalisation unit and controller. For applications with re- stricted space, the The high-resolution digitalisation unti reads off the track data at a recording frequency of at least 20kHz. Even at a process speed of 10m/s, resolution within the nm range is as- sured.The digitalised track data are transferred free of interference via a maximum cable length of up to 10 m to the controller and there conver-ted to absolute position values by a high per- formance processor in real time. These position values can be read off either via a CAN bus interface or via a 100 MBit TCP/IP interface.High-performance software for calibration, dia-gnosis and service purposes is available. sensor head can be moun-ted separate from the digitalisation unit. These two componets are than connected via a highly flexible FFC cable.
