configuration, all product-relevant data are immediately transferred to the ERP system.
Additional time-savings could be achieved during construction of a belt conveyor. Formerly, an experienced design engineer needed at least two hours for the creation of a complete conveyor; with the help of HELiCON, this time could be reduced to less than five minutes!
Assemble to Order
This approach is based on an order-neutral préfabrication of assemblies and modules. The required products are composed of already finished modules on the basis of a customer order (configuration). A typical example for this would be the ordering of a notebook or computer from an online seller.
In a pilot project, in fact during the early project planning phase, HELiCON has just proven its extraordinary efficiency and suitability for this field of application. Our customer was a manufacturer of conveying systems with an extremely complex and diversified product range. The difficult configuration task consisted in a complete conveyor belt made up of more than 5,000 single parts. The conveyor belt is configured with variations of the main components, which are in turn variable in their composition. Due to the modular structure of HELiCON and the accompanying service package for the acquisition and preparation of the configuration knowledge, the product configurator could be realised in only two months. The results of the configuration are directly visualised as 3-D models and can even be adapted to most complex customer requirements. After
The experiences made in this pilot project clearly demonstrate that enormous productivity potentials can be unlocked by the utilisation of intelligent, modular product configurators in design engineering, especially when dealing with multi-variant products. The meticulous collection and preparation of configuration-relevant knowledge reduces error rates and guarantees a consistently high quality of the configured products. Furthermore, the generic and integrative concept enables, in comparison with other configurators, significant time savings during system implementation.
