Intel® I/O Processor Overview - 33710 Why Intel?

Based on five generations of leadership in I/O processors, Intel provides the industry’s most advanced I/Oprocessor roadmap based on high performance and low power consumption of Intel XScale technology. Intel provides a wide range of complementary silicon, including best-in-class PCI-PCI bridge devices and Ethernet controllers designed to help simplify the implementation of controllers and platforms.

When is it time to consider implementing I/O technology?

As system demands rapidly increase, greater I/O throughput becomes a necessity. The Intel I/O processorfamily, beginning with the Intel
® i960 Rx I/O processors and continuing with the Intel
® IOP310, IOP321, and the next-generation IOP315 and IOP331, aids developers in accomplishing a significant increase in overall system performance. The Intel
® IOP315 chipset, with the new highly integrated Intel
® 80314 companion chip, unleashes the perform-ance of the Intel
® 80200 processor. This 2-chip combination provides up to 733 MHz, PCI-X to PCI-X bridge,Gb Ethernet MACs, enhanced memory controller and more. The Intel
® IOP315 is an excellent solution for low-cost storage applications. The IOP331 offers the highest performance processor core in today’s family, with speed up to 800 MHz for the most demanding applications. The IOP331 I/O processor with Intel XScale microarchitecture and highly optimized enhancedmemory controller is a cost-effective system on a chip that greatly improves I/O performance for integrated storage and intelligent communications applications. The IOP332 is a highly integrated I/O system on a chip for RAID on Motherboard and I/O-intensive storage, networking and a host of other intelligent I/O applications that require a highly integrated, high-performance system on a chip processor with an integrated PCI Express interface.
