Notes and explanations General introduction Basic system structure The minimum configuration of an AS-i system consists of the master, an AS-i power supply and the slaves. If needed, the user can also connect safe-
ty monitors, repeaters, earth fault monitors or other diagnostic tools to the
AS-i network. >

Extended ID code in the slave. AS-interface version 2.1 In 1999 the AS-International Association improved its tried and tested indus-trial standard AS-Interface by some important features. This is called ver-
sion 2.1. As the designation suggests, these features are downward compat-
ible. For the user this means the investments he made are protected since all
existing AS-i slaves can be further used under version 2.1. So the physical
bus structure and the protocol have remained unchanged since 1992. At the
end of 2004 a downward compatible extension, AS-i 3.0, was agreed. This
new version describes a new slave generation with serial data transmission
and other special applications. The AS-i specification 3.0 comprises all for-
mer specifications (2.0 and 2.1). Visit our website: www.ifm-electronic.com >
