What is a Haskel Air Driven Liquid Pump ?
1. Air Drive Section
This consists of a light weight inertia reducing piston complete with o-nng seal inside an epo*y tilled wound fiberglass or hard ooated aluminum ban* The diamete* of the air piston is constant for any senes ot air driven pumps When compressed air is ted into the air dnve it forces the piston down on the compression stroke The air then drives the piston back on the auction stroko (except m the case ot the M eonos pumps wnioh have a spring return) Unlike many competitive pumps, air dnve line lubricators are not required nor desired due to the inherent low friction characteristics of the Haskel design and lubrication during assembly
t. AIR DRIVE SECTION
2. Hydraulic Section
Tne hydraulic piBlon/pSunger is directly linked to the air piston and rts lower portion 13 housed inside the hydraulic body Its diameter determines the ratio ot the pump (for any particular senes) which in turn determines the output flow and maximum pressure capability Its function is to induce liquid into the the hydraulic body through the inlet check valve and force it out through the outlet oheck vatve at a higher pressure
These are spring loaded non-return varves that control the passage of liquid into and out ot the pump When the hydraulic piston/plunger is on the suction stroke the inlet oheck valve opens to the maximum, the liquid is induced into the pump while the outlet check valve is he'd closed by its spring On the pressure stroke the inlet check varve is closed as the hydraulic piston/plunger force the liquid out through the outlet oheck valve
A dynamic seal encircles the hydraulic piston/plunger, and is one ot the tew wearing parts lis function is to oonlain the liquid under pressure dunng cyolmg and prevent external leakage or leakage into the air drive. Different seal materials and configurations are used, based on the compatibility of Ihe liquid to be pumped, operaling temperature and the pressure rating
2. HVDRAULIC SECTION
NOTE With moat Haskel pumps a distance piece can be incorporated, between the air drive section and Ihe hydraulic seolion. for complete separation and contaminant free operation
3. Air Cycling Valve
This consists of a unbalanced, pilot operated. Iignt weight spool that channels the com-pressed air to either side ol the air piston, depending on position The air piston actuates pilot valves at the top and bottom of rts stroke, alternately pressurising and venting the large area of the aooci causing it to reciprocate and control the air flow to the air piston to maintain automatic cycling The air rs exhausted from the pump through an exhaust muffler Unlike many competitive pumps, Haskel does no! use close metal to metal lits in their design This eliminates the costly air leakage that woukj otherwise result in a spool hang up condition
