Hanstone is principally made from quartz, which after diamonds, is nature's second-hardest material. Its material properties are far superior to those of marble and it is avail-able in a wide range of colors. These quali-ties have made Hanstone an increasingly popular choice for covering counters, tables, floors and walls in homes and offices.
The world's second largest and Korea's sole GMT maker
Hanwha L&C is the world's second largest producer of glass mat-reinforced thermoplastics (GMT), and the company's GMT technology is widely acclaimed. This materi-al is strong enough to substitute for steel in many applications.
Hanwha L&C, a leading Korean plastics processor, is constantly introducing new products for everyday applications as well as for industries of great national importance. In the process, the company is helping to improve the quality of people's lives.
Founded in 1965, Hanwha L&C has grown steadily over the past four decades and today produces construction materials, automotive parts, specialty films, and decorative sheet. The company is also intensively developing strategic growth areas for the future such as materials used in electric, electronic and communications products.
Importantly, Hanwha L&C products are widely recognized for excellence. The entire lineup of plastic window frames has obtained the KS (Korea Standard) Mark for quality, while the home-use flooring business has been ranked first on the Korea Customer Satisfaction Index for each of the past three years.
The company is putting greater attention on the development of new business lines with long-term growth potential. Investment is being stepped up for developing substrates for displays, special-purpose films and other materials use to make the essential parts for electronics, information and communications products. Other new areas of focus include nano-technology-based coatings, optical technologies and technologies for making materials lighter.
In the second half of 2004, Hanwha L&C begun to commercially produce and supply Hanstone, a next-generation interior finishing material made from quartz that is at least 99% pure. Today the product line is being promoted in North America, Southeast Asia and other overseas markets.
The enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, launched in North America in 2002, has provided a platform for greater operational efficiency. The next stage involves the integration of customer relations management and supply chain management systems. Competitiveness will be enhanced in the online business environment.
Hanwha L&C products are sold in Korea, the Americas, Japan and Europe after meeting exacting quality requirements. The quality assurance and environmental management systems have been ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 14001 certified, and the company has the technologies to ensure customer satisfaction.
Yeochun NCC is Korea's largest naphtha cracking operation, supplying domestic and foreign petrochemical producers with ethylene, propylene, benzene, toluene, xylene, styrene monomer and butadiene as feedstock for processing into downstream products. The company was established in a 1999 voluntary merger of the naphtha cracking centers run by the Hanwha and Daelim Groups. Equity ownership is split 50:50.
This bold move by two Korean enterprises in the naphtha cracking business since 1979 has eliminated redundant investment and enhanced operational efficiency. Moreover, the two partͭners have shared their superb technologies, management know-how and systems to create a synergy effect, raising international competitiveness and laying the foundation for growth as world-class petrochemical specialists.
Yeochun NCC is located in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex and operates a vertically integrated system spanning ten plants in three different locations. State-of-the-art facilities, supported by automated naphtha crackers, strictly control all production processes to ensure high-purity products. Current annual output stands at 1.81 million tons of ethylene, 910,000 tons of propylene, and 2.28 million tons of other base materials for a total of five million tons. Thus, the petrochemical industry is provided with a stable supply of feedstock. All Yeochun NCC facilities are run as optimized systems, and every process, from production to loading, is computerized, integrated and automated.
The platform for sustainable growth is based on stable supply quantities as well as a vertically integrated distribution and supply structure. Moreover, facilities investments are being made to strengthen competitiveness and realize the economy of scale. Protecting workers and the environment are always top priorities, and methodical accident prevention activities are ongoing within the framework of the integrated EQHS management system. Scientific ESH policies are established and executed as management works tirelessly to eliminate accidents and occupational illness from the workplace.
Yeochun NCC enjoys international competitiveness from product specialization, operational scale and concentration on a core business.
Integrated system for EQSH management
Yeochun NCC has remained committed to quality assurance, obtaining the internally recognized KSA/ISO 9001 certification in 1994. Today, the company's integrated "EQSH system" is in place, bringing together the management of environmental protection, quality assurance, work safety, and employee health. Overall competitiveness is raised as a result.
