Conductivity
Conductivity (EC) is a measure of the ability ofwater to pass an electrical current.
Conductivity in water is affected by the pres-
ence of inorganic dissolved solids such as
chloride, nitrate, sulfate, and phosphateanions (ions that carry a negative charge) orsodium, magnesium, calcium, iron, and alu-
minum cations (ions that carry a positive
charge). These are called Total Dissolved
Solids (TDS). Conductivity is also affected by
temperature: the warmer the water, the higher
the conductivity. For this reason, conductivity
is reported as conductivity at 25 degreesCelsius (25 °C). Our waterproof conductivityand total dissolved solids meters have many
applications, such as: -Monitor TDS levels for sensitive speciessuch as discus. -Use in conjunction with R/O units, both todetermine membrane efficiency (outflow of
water should read 5-25 uS/cm) and correct
application of the purified water.-Take precise salinity readings. TDS or ECcan be converted to salinity more accuratelythan a hydrometer or refractometer. •Specialized electrode•High accuracy
•Fast response
•Automatic temperature compensation This family of industrial ph meters feature manual or automatic temperature compensation with separatepH and temperature probes. The Auto-Instruction feature guides the user through the calibration
process, using one or two of five memorized buffers. The HI 9025 has the capability to measureORP as well with the optional ORP probe (HI 3230B).

Tip
PSU is an acronym for practical salinity units, which is essentially a modern replacement
for ppt, since salinity is no longer defined as
directly relating to solids in the water, but
rather by its conductivity.
