Introduction

The performance requirements for cables in fire hazard conditions continue to develop due to theincreasingly complex design of installations such as, „ High rise buildings „ Airports „ Public Buildings „ Libraries „ Hospitals „ Mass transit stations „ Shopping Centres „ Hotels, etc.As the size and design of these types of installations increase, the number of people utilising these locationsnaturally develops and combined with the fact that as technology advances and machinery and equipment become more complex it is possible that the opportunities for a fire hazard could increase.In the design of these installations, the designers must ensure that in the event of a fire hazard there arespecific systems that guarantee that all circuits will continue to operate during, and some circuits after the fire hazard has been cleared allowing the applications to be shutdown safely and efficiently, therefore, allowing the evacuation procedure to take place without delay, to ensure that the evacuation and shutdown takes place without any risk to life or equipment.
