Christoph-Willi Gehring dies 1981 — at the age of 86.
Different feeding programs of the 1984
electro-mechanic feeding device EMZ allow the optimization of the
diameter and cylinder shape as well as the reduction of the cycle time.

The flexible machining of different bores
in small lots is applied for the first time to hone
bearing plates for paper-producing machines.
German Patent (DE 3719796): Fluid-Micro-Finish to exclude smeared metal. The FMF concept, a development by VW/AUDI and Gehring, is used to remove
the micro burrs on cylinder bore surfaces.
After fluid jetting at approx. 120 bar the surface is finished with "flexible" diamond stones.
