Velomitor® Piezo-Velocity Sensor S incc ils introduction in 1991, thc Velomitor* Piezo-Velocity Sensor has proven durable in over 1,000 industrial installations worldwidc. Its primary application is for measuring bcaring housing or case vibration on machines wilh rolling clément bearings, such as pumps, compressors, motors and fans, whcrc casing mcasuremcnts are considered appropriate and arc pre-fcrrcd. Thc Velomitor® is accurate and siable in ihcse tough mcasurcmcnt applications. With no movjng paris, a Velomitor* can provide many years of trouble-free service. Ils principlc of opération is based on a piezoelectric crystal al its core connected to on-board cicctronics consisting of a low noise amplifier/ integrator. The sensor with intégral clectronics is then packaged in a hermetically-sealed, stainless steel case for maximum ruggedness. should bc used to protect the sensor and cable from physical abuse.Toobtain thc highest level of safety in ail hazardous areas, we recommend using intrinsic safety barriers with the monitoring equipment to limit the thermal and clcctrical energy enteringthc hazardous area. Intrinsic safety is the preferred method for preventing ignition of a hazardous area and is recommended for ail Velomitors locatcd there. Advanced Velomitor30 supersedes moving-coil transducers Many facililies currently have moving-coil vclocity transducers mounted on rotating equipment. The spring-mass design of thèse transducers can cause them to v/ear out over time and require replacement. A Velomitor* can be installcd instead of thc moving-coil velocity transduccr to provide the following advantages: • No moving parts means a longer life span and higher rcliability • Less sensitivity to cross-axis vibration • Hcrmctically-sealed, stainless steel case provides excellent mois-ture and corrosion résistance • Mounting orientations arc no longer crittcal; différent types of sensors for vertical and horizontal are not needed • No additional interface modules or électron ic deviecs are needed to link the Velomitor* with a 3300 monitor • Similar physical mounting arrangements and wiring connections as conventional velocity transducers • Priced lower than most velocity transducers Hazardous area approvals obtaîned Petroleum refining and Chemical pro-cessing plants routincly process and consume flammable gases and liquids. Thèse opérations have designated hazardous (flammable) arcas that require agency-approved sensors for monitor-ing rotating machinery. Bentiy Nevada recognizes thc importance of complying with safety standards that are estab-lished by experts in thc ficld of hazardous areas. We have designed the Velomitor5 to comply with thèse strin-gent safety standards and have received approval certificates from the following agencies: Canadian Standards Association -Classes I, Il and III, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups A through G Velomitor>: Piezo-Velocity Sensor Factorv Mutual Research (USA) -Classes I, II and III, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups A through G SIRA Safety Services Ud. (United Kingdom) - EEx ia II C T4 (Zone 0,1) certified to CENELEC standards and Ex N IIT4 (Zone 2) certified to British standards When ordering Velomitor* sensors for hazardous areas, select the desired certification from the part number's Agency Approval Option. This approval certifies that the Velomitor® can bc locatcd in spécifie hazardous arcas when propcrly installcd. Ncxt, an cnvironmcntally-resistant housing 28 Orbit Decemberl992
