Gigabit Ethernet OptoLock®EDL1000TPRELIMINARY DATA SHEET665 nm VCSELGigabit Fiber Optic Transceiverwith Termination for Bare POFSeamless Digital to Light/Light to Digital Conversion FEATURES• Visible VCSEL at red wavelength (665 nm) • Optimized for data transmission at 1.25 Gbps • Simple low-cost termination solution for bare POF • Compatible with 1mm SI POF or 0.2mm GI POF • Single 3.3V power supplyDESCRIPTION• Compact form-factor with VCSEL driver and receiver IC housed within transceiver enclosure Firecomms’ EDL1000T gigabit transceiver combines a gigabitvisible optical transmitter and an integrated receiver within a miniature package with the OptoLock® interface for bare Plastic Optical Fiber (POF). It is capable of delivering 1.25 Gbps signal over plastic optical fiber and operates within the temperature range of 0 to 50°C.The EDL1000T is a red VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface EmittingLaser)-based fiber optic solution designed to provide a Gigabit Ethernet communication link over POF. The VCSEL in this transceiver is a high-speed visible coherent light source requiring low operating current. The use of visible light source enhances safety and simplifies link set-up and testing. The design of the OptoLock bare fiber adapter allows the optical fiber to be cut and terminated to the required length. This significantly reduces the complexity of POF termination. The miniature form-factor of this transceiver allows easy placement into consumer or datacom equipment to enable Gigabit communication over plastic optical fiber.EDL1000T is designed to be compatible with both 1mm PMMAPOF with 2.2 mm outer diameter and 0.2mm graded index POF with 2.2 mm outer diameter. • LVDS- and CML-compatible electrical interface • Suitable for Gigabit Ethernet and IEEE 1394 applications • Footprint compatible with SMI transceivers • RoHS compliantED1000T (Preliminary) Revision P5 Firecomms assumes no responsibility for inaccuracies or omissions in the information contained in this document.
