5Location Planning
The FLSC
industrial monitors hazardous areas and protects operatingper-sonnel and plants. To enable it to fulfil these tasks, you
need to observe a number of rules and safety criteria whenchoosing its location. The key information with regard to this ispresented on the following pages. Note:It may be that other standards and regulations not cited hereare also of importance to your application. If you are uncertain about your application, please contact yourlocal FIESSLER office.Always choose a location–which provides the maximum safety in the hazardous area,
–in which no obstacles can obstruct the field of vision of theFLSC or cause umber shadows,–in which the FLSC is protected against damp, dirt and dam-age,–in which the FLSC is not influenced by sunlight or artificial lightsources,–which is as accessible as possible for electrical installationwork. Please note that intrusion into needle-formed protective fields/protective field sections (protective field segments only consistof a single pixel) is ignored by the device for reasons of availabil-ity.
If such forms of protective fields cannot be avoided, alwaysprogramme at least one more adjacent pixel.Approval of the FLSC for use as a personal protection applianceis based on area protection. Other mounting locations are,
following an assessment of potential risks and with the approvalof the relevant authorities, also possible. The possibility ofpeople being endangered must always be excluded. Range of the FLSC The FLSC measures its surroundings in a semicircular plane –(scanning angle 180°). Employment of an optoelectronic
safety unit as area protection requires a minimum resolution of70 mm at a specific mounting height of 300 mm. The FLSCguarantees this resolution to a distance of 4 metres. Thereforethe system software of FLSC type 101-312 limits the maximum
radius of the protected field automatically to 4 metres. The FLSC type 201-313 does not have this limitation, and so isnot certified for personal protection. The protective field safeguarding the hazardous area of amachine- or vehicle may have a maximum radius of 4 metres.
The FLSC shuts the machine down or stops the vehicle in theevent of an intrusion into the protective field. The warning field may have any radius up to 50 metres. Youshould note, however, that the sensor is only able to detectobjects with a reflectance of approx. 20 – 30 % to a distanceof 15 metres. The measuring range of the FLSC extends to a radius of50 metres. Up to that distance the FLSC is able to detect thecontour of its surroundings (e.g. the space contour). It can thenadditionally evaluate this data for the protective field and the
warning field, provided the reflectance of the object is sufficientto be detected. >
