Section 5.2 Erbium / Ytterbium Co-Doped FibersFIBERCORE 2009 Catalogue - 36079 CP1500YAll-Glass Er/Yb co-doped double-clad fiberAll-Silica Quasi circular geometry Field Proven Industry standard, 105 µm pump guide geometry Cleaves, splices and mounts like any other fiberCP1500Y has been used in Scientific Atlanta’s and lately Cisco’s high-power fiber amplifiers since 1999 and has now been deployed in literally thousands of CATV and FTTx systems around the Globe. No other dual-clad fiber has been so extensively field-proven and now, for the very first time, this ground-breaking product has been released for unrestricted, general sale. The CP1500Y is still the only all-silica dual-clad fiber optimized for efficient energy transfer and is still the only dual-clad fiber that fits standard ferrules, can be cleaved and spliced with standard equipment and delivers the same level of reliability as a standard fiber. End Face image of the CP1100 Second Cladding: Fluorine-doped Silica The multi-lobed, pure silica pump-core of CP1500Y ensures that the multi-mode pump energy is transferred efficiently to the doped singlemode core, whilst the circular cross section enhances compatibility with conventional optical fibers and components. The Er/Yb co-doped singlemode core is manufactured using Fibercore’s patented phosphosilicate core technology, first established by Fibercore in 1993. The phosphosilicate host facilitates efficient energy transfer from the ytterbium ions to the erbium ions to produce the desired output within the 1550 nm window.
