Monitoring Enterprise VoIP Applications with Brix 100M Verifiers
Fail-safe Operation
The Brix 100M Verifier is designed to flexibly support multiple configurations: in-line, for sites needing to collect network and application statistics from an in-line perspective, and one-armed, for installations where proactive service testing is the priority.
To ensure network integrity during in-line deployment, the Brix 100M offers multilevel fail-safes, including: separate packet-forwarding and network-testing data paths, to ensure wire-rate traffic flow under all conditions; an integral hardware watchdog timer, to prevent software lockups; and mechanical relays, to protect the network if the Verifier's power fails.
Zero Truck-Roll Installation and Management
The Brix 100M Verifier delivers complete "lights-out" operation, and can easily be installed by the end user. Set-up simply consists of plugging in cables for Ethernet connectivity and power and the Verifier completes the rest.
Installing the Brix 100M in-line calls for two Ethernet cables, one to the router or firewall and the other to the enterprise switch, while one-armed configurations need a single Ethernet cable off of the enterprise switch. As it powers up, the Brix 100M Verifier performs system integrity checks, automatically discovers its BrixWorx or BrixMon server, and then downloads all system configuration, test modules, and test schedules over a secure, encrypted connection from the server.
Once deployed in the field, the Brix 100M is completely managed remotely through the BrixWorx or BrixMon server's Web-based user interface. Software upgrades, additional tests, and modified configurations are all downloaded transparently.
Network-to-Application Layer Performance Management
The Brix 100M Verifier supports the full suite of more than 50 active and passive tests provided by the Brix System. These tests support a wide array of IP services, including VoIP, video, VPN, and Web-based applications, plus network and infrastructure performance tests. The Brix 100M calculates a deep set of performance statistics (such as one-way packet latency and jitter) by measuring application-specific transactions. Active tests precisely simulate user-level transactions, while application-aware passive tests monitor user-generated traffic.
