Our key to hobbing quality is positioningcontrol and superior rigidity of both cutterand work drives. Million-count encodersare used on all axes; the hob is servo- driven; linear axes are direct-driven. Drake GS:H machines use top qualitypre-loaded ground ball screws. This system provides excellent lead and index accuracy and consistent tooth spacing.Performance in action. Faster set-up and changeover bring youincreased productivity.Specific performance features in thisDrake GS:H-6 for making steering gearpinion shafts included a drive dog checkand load fault detection.This high-volume, 24-hour-a-day machineproduces parts with a Cpk of up to 6.0 on tooth spacing and a Cpk of up to 2.5 on part diameter—all with a 7-secondhobbing cycle. Since the system software and servomotors control all movable axes, set-up ismuch simpler, changeover is faster andproductive machine time is increased. The CNC provides data storage for hob life management as well as gear definition, hob geometry and processdata to expedite changeovers. Optional systems include power helix,auto loading, hydraulic work clamping, high-speed hobbing, automatic stockdividing and thermal compensation. Five hydraulic clamps provide positive helix positioning.+Z A versatile performer.Drake’s unique systems approach applies to both conventional andclimb feed hobbing of work-pieces with multiple diameters per set-up.
