UNIPAD KEYPAD For Transaction Systems

Publication Number KP024/0605Application The Dewhurst 16 key UniPad is a world class vandal and weather-resisting keypad specifically designed for systems that need to comply with regulations concerning the use of PIN authorised debit and credit cards and also needing to comply with disability access codes and practices.Applications include Automatic Teller Machines (ATM’s), cash dispensers, “pay at pump” gasoline sales, productvending systems and self-checkout systems. In fact anywhere that a plastic card is used to pay and secure PIN entry is required. The financial institutions require a keypad that cannot be bugged to steal a PIN number and that can support a cryptographic module that can perform Triple DES encryption and that is itself protected from attack. Note to OEM’s The specification that follows can be modified to meet user demands for a particular packagingand features.Body form, size and mounting Key size and spacingFeatures and coloursConnectivityConnector style and position PCB detail Construction The body is a high pressure zinc alloy die-casting offered with tough satin or bright triplex chromium plating or can be painted in a range of colours using hardwearing finishes that can coordinate with the host system. Mounting The keypad is designed for through fascia mounting and is presented as a stud mountable package. The body face has a knife-edge to mate with a sealing gasket. Keys The keys are 15mm x 20mm with a markable area of 13mm x 18mm and sit 1.0mm (compliance minimum) above the surface and the fourth column has extra (x3) separation from the third. All varieties of key are inserted from the rear of the keypad and resist extraction from the front. All “5” keys normally have a raised pip as a locator feature. OptionsStainless steel laser marked keys with insert moulded, coloured, raised features. Numerics:Matt grey with dark markFunction:Matt grey with insert moulded raised features typically Cancel X Red, Clear | Yellow,Enter 0 Green. Other colours/raised features will be available.If required the insert moulding technique can be extended to the numeric keys to provide a raisedtactile dark character contrasting with the matt stainless key. Additional legends (such as QZ, ABC,DEF ....) can be laser engraved.The key consists of a pressed stainless cap over a moulded plastic actuator. Where insert mouldingis used to provide a raised feature, the actuator is formed at the same time.The aperture for the insert moulding is punched during the forming of the key cap.
