If the operator is well aware of this distinction, he can easily work on the alphanumeric keyboard, using the screen to communicate with the computer: in this stage, no physical actions that could be dangerous for the machine are generated (in particular THE AXES DO NOT MOVE). Once the commands and the computer consent have been given, the required functions can be started using the appropriate commands. If your manufacturer has implemented a soft-keys menu on WinTerm interface, it is possible that some execution commands are managed by software buttons (soft-keys) and not by physical buttons. You can press a soft-key by clicking on it with the mouse, or by using the CTRL + Fn combination.
