Mirrors OPTICAL SUBSTRATE MATERIALS Because any compromise on material quality can result in seri-ous degradation of performance or even complete failure of an opti- cal system, only the highest quality materials are used by MellesGriot in the fabrication of these components. Substrate materials used are appropriate for the wavelengths ofspecific applications, ensuring the highest performance possible. Standard components are manufactured from BK7 or UV-gradesynthetic fused silica. Our standard coatings are designed to provide optimum performance at their specifiedwavelengths. Many of our standard coatings have been indepen-dently tested by Big Sky Laser (USA) and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (UK) for damage thresholds.
