Solid carbide DynaPoint drills from Kennametal employ a low-thrust
cutting geometry designed to avoid bending thin-wall, high-temperature alloy parts.
New materials, geometries, coatings, and toolholders boost holemaking efficiency

New materials, including improved carbide grades, more aggressive geometries, and specialized PVD and PCD coatings are helping manufacturers achieve faster, more efficient drilling. Typically the first operation in holemaking, drilling demands not only reasonable per hole cost efficiencies, but also highly accurate machining of holes in parts critical to
safety and performance in aerospace and automotive manufacturing. Indexable drills offer the most cost-efficient drilling with the lowest cost per hole while carbide grades, brazed drills, and highspeed stainless steel drills feature greater accuracies at higher cost. Aerospace and medical applications requiring high accuracy can take advantage of new carbide drills from Kennametal Inc. (Latrobe, PA) that offer a low-thrust cutting geometry designed to avoid bending thin-wall, high-temperature alloy parts.
