Marking Application Process Report
Control Laser Marking & Deep Engraving Techniques
Laser marking is the most flexible type of marking available today. No other marking process includes the flexibility of computer control for the immediate change of parameters and marking information with the speed and permanence of a laser. Our laser marking systems are able to mark and engrave materials using a variety of process techniques. These different process techniques can be used to produce the type of "mark" required on your product and material.
Pr
ecipitation Marking (Surface Annealing
■ Ability to draw carbon and/or oxides from the base material to get a contrasting mark
■ Applies comparatively low temperatures to the metals to anneal surface
■ Marking beam will produce a sharp contrasting line to the surrounding area with little to no penetration
■ Advantages include non-disruption of the material surface
Su
rface Etching
■ Ability to change the surface finish of a metal, thus altering its reflectivity, and in turn enhancing contrast
■ Penetration depth is typically no more than .0001" deep
■ Considerable speed advantage because the material is almost instantly vaporized with each pulse, allowing the beam velocity to be set as high as possible, while still maintaining desired depth and acceptable pulse overlap
Va
porization Marking
■ Vaporization of base material sufficient to produce depth required, typically from .0001" to .005"
■ Vaporization process identical to surface etching
■ Increased depth of the mark requires a number of repeated passes
Deep Engraving
■ Vaporization of base material typically in excess of .005" deep
■ Vaporization process identical to surface etching
■ Increased depth of the mark requires a number of repeated passes
