CHANNEL CA TYPE PENSTOCK

DOC. CA.11/08 GENERAL MAINTENANCE If the indicated installation instructions have been followed these penstocks have no other maintenance than the replacement of the sealing joints and the slides, if they are of stainless steel construction. On the carbon steel penstocks other than the sealing joints and slides the external coating has to be renewed, if the installation requests it or allows it. 1.2 REPLACEMENT OF THE SEALING JOINTS 1.2.1 Take out the gate from its guide or frame. 1.2.2 Remove the used joint, cleaning the sealing surfaces of the gate and frame. 1.2.3 Cut the exact length of the profile taking care with the coping on four apex, they must have perfect mitre joints. Glue with LOCTITE 495 or similar. 1.2.4 Mark the drilling of the joint using the gate as templet. 1.2.5 Make the fastening joint-gate by sheet billets, tightening enough to get a firm fixation. 1.2.6 Insert the gate in the frame after greasing the seat, and once the actuator is mounted make a handle for verification. 1.3 REPLACEMENT OF THE SLIDES 1.3.1 The slides will be replaced only on the penstocks that due to pressure conditions will have slides of RCH1000 or of Brass. 1.3.2 Considering that the life of the slides is longer than the life of the sealing joints, the slides will be replaced once every two or three replacements of the seats. We are talking about several years, depending the number of handlings and the chemical content of the water. 1.3.3 Normally the replacement of the slides should be made at the same time of the replacement of the sealing joints.
