The R4300 Châssis features the highest levels of flexibility, scalability and reliability for the most demanding business environments. Each chassis is a self-contained, 3U unit that provides all of the Ethernet connections, airflow management and power required by the R Series blades. rack. The chassis is based on a modular
architecture that can be configured to optimally support ClearCube C/Ports, I/Ports or both.
The chassis features multiple levels of redundancy that enable end-user uptimes exceeding 99.99%. Dual AC inputs, automatic variable speed fans, hot-swappable power supplies and redundant, hot-swappable management modules all serve to deliver unprecedented levels of reliability for PC blade computing. The modular design of these components is backward compatible with previous-generation equipment, enabling existing customers to upgrade their current chassis without having to remove the PC blades from the racks in which they are installed.
Each chassis includes three configurable module bays that provide the connection, management and networking functionality described below (see the R4300 Modules datasheet for more information). When combined with ClearCube management software, the modules deliver unique capabilities such as hot sparing, blade switching, hardware remote control and out-of-band blade management.
Connect Bay - Connect modules provide user port connections and features such as hardware remote control and administration, blade sparing and 8x8 switching.
Management Bay - The Remote Management Module (RMM) controls switching in the Connect Module and monitors blade and chassis status over the system management bus. The RMM communicates with ClearCube Sentral via an Ethernet connection to carry out blade sparing, 8x8 switching and management functions.
Network Bay - The Ethernet Pass-thru Module contains Ethernet jacks for connecting each blade in the chassis to an external network switch.
