Q .2
harmonics
Disturbance which affects the voltage and current waveform and is caused by non-sinusoidal loads.
Generally, harmonics found in the system have relatively low frequencies and are usually responsible for industrial transformers and distribution lines overheating. They are also responsible for generating high currents and losses in the neutral in some installations, overcurrent trips in some protective devices and differential relay trips, etc. This is periodical voltage amplitude disturbance which has direct repercussions on incandescent light fl uctuations. This effect causes visual annoyance and produces tiredness if the phenomenon is permanent.
This perception value has to be measured objectively (Pst). In many quality standards, (EN50160), Pst < 1 is admissible and not damaging.
