Text version of the page
For individual spaces total heatingcapacity is calculated in the con-ventional way, using formulas in theASHRAE “Guide” or those found inthe NEMA handbook.

KUH Horizontal Unit Heater PDS - 15774 KUH Horizontal Unit Heater

For pedestrian entryways whenheating capacity is not known, a “rule of thumb” is 3000-5000 wattsper door. Use 3000 watts per doorfor a low traffic single-door entry. For a large multiple-door entry, or ahigh traffic single-door entry, use5000 watts per door.

Application Tips

Loading Docks . Unit heaters areused to combat cold air inrushwhen loading dock doors are opened. For such applications, oneor more units should be arranged toblow warm air across the opening, not toward it. Small rooms can be heated by aone (1) unit heater. Where two (2)walls are exposed, heater should be mounted as shown. In multiple unit heater installa-tions , locate units so each unitsupports the air stream fromanother, thus setting up circulatory air movement. In warehouse type applications ,for maintaining minimum tempera- ture, one or more large heaters canbe used to reduce initial installationexpense. Large rooms require multi-unitinstallations. Number and capacityof units will be determined byvolume of building and square feet of floor area to be heated. Arrangeunits to provide perimeter aircirculation. To prevent air stratification, totalCFM capacity of all units should circulate the room air volume atleast 3 times per hour. Units shouldbe located so their air streams wipe exposed walls without blowingdirectly at them.

Mounting Recommendations

Warning - This heater is not in-tended for use in hazardous atmo-spheres where flammable vapors, gases, liquids or other combustible atmospheres are present as definedin the National Electric Code. Failureto comply can result in explosion or fire. Hazardous Atmosphere - KUHHorizontal Unit heaters should notbe used in potentially explosiveatmospheres. Mounting Height - Do not installheaters above recommendedmaximum mounting height. Corrosive Atmosphere - The finishis not intended for direct salt sprayexposure in marine applications or the highly corrosive atmosphere ofgreenhouses, swimming pools, chemical storage bins, etc. Obstructions - Must not blockheater air inlet or discharge.
