Safety with Design

Landquart, 24th April 2007 Compact safety light curtains ensure inconspicuous safety coverage of hazard areas. This gives the designer the freedom he needs to combine safety and good design under the one umbrella.

Limitless Freedoms?

A designer's freedom with regard to machine design appears to be unlimited. Modern design tools and manufacturing process help him to give real form to his ideas and requirements. Particularly in the case of smaller machinery items safety regulations can painfully restrict freedom of design due to spatial constraints. For the essential safety components must not spoil hinder of operation or spoil the aesthetic look of the machine. Compact safety components are in great demand in such cases. These afford the designer the freedom of scope he needs to be able to comply with statutory regulations without detriment.

Compact no-compromise safety

With its Safe200 and Safe400 safety light curtains Swiss optosensor manufacturer CEDES offers two monitoring systems which - with a profile cross-section of 15 x 20 mm - are amongst the smallest in their class in the world (EN 954-1 Category 2 and 4 finger protection). Both systems are now available with a protection zone height of 50 mm upwards. "With this degree of compactness the designer is afforded the freedom necessary for both new installations and updates," states Beda Broder, Head of the "Safety and Automation" business sector convincingly and provides three examples:
