Landquart, 16th August 2007 The German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen is improving safety on their existing paternoster storage systems. Compact safety components from CEDES enable quick and problem-free realization . In many manufacturing companies, so-called paternoster systems are used for the storage of small parts. These storage systems function according to a recirculation principle and have important advantages over conventional storage equipment. For example, many parts can be stored optimally in areas where floor space is limited. Additionally the goods are brought to the operator automatically and thus set-up times are substantially reduced. At the largest European automobile manufacturer, Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany, many of these paternoster systems are in operation in the most diverse business sectors. VW entrusted CEDES GmbH in Rheinhausen (Germany) for the realization of the occupational regulations regarding health and safety standard BGR 234 at storage systems. The optical sensor specialist provided the ideal safety light curtains for the safeguarding of the extraction area. Furthermore, the CEDES service personnel were trained for the annual safety inspections, as required in BGR 234. In the meantime more than 100 paternoster systems have been retrofitted with the Safge400 safety light curtains with finger resolution (14 mm). The light curtain protects the operator in front
