| | The manufacturing costs are significantly lower. SAW typically welds at 500mm/minute, completing a multi-pass, multi-head weld of a 5m diameter tube in 100mm steel in some 37 hours. RPEBW on the other hand welds at only lOOmm/minute but can complete the same task in a single pass of under 3 hours. Taking the RPEBW process to the components, in this case very large and heavy, improves the efficiency of the whole project. Local chambers can be set up easily. A single welding station can operate entirely automatically and undertake both the required longitudinal and circumferential welds. Cutting the time taken to fabricate the monopiles offers shorter programmes and savings in project cost.This is a major breakthrough and will inevitably lead to a greater acceptance and deployment of wind power technology. | |
