B-3 EXAMPLE Replacement gear and motor drive in a saw mill using a 3 HP, 1750 RPM 182TC frame motor and a gear with final output of 15 RPM. It will drive a reciprocating conveyor 16 hrs/day. The drive cycles continuously throughout each shift. Gearmotor has a 5 inch (pitch diameter) sprocket mounted on output shaft shoulder with a 2:1 (speed down) chain drive. Customer prefers C-Face speed reducers. Step 1 – AGMA service classification tables on page B-5 indicate that this is a CLASS III application. Step 2 – Page B-16 reducer tables indicates that a frame 2403A will do the job. Step 3 – To check overhung load for example. r = Sprocket Diameter = 5 = 2.5 2 2 K = 1.0 LLF = 0.80 HP = 3 OHL = 63025 x HP x K x LLF RPM x r OHL = 63025 x 3 x 1.0 x 0.8 = 4034 lbs. 15 x 2.5 Overhung load capacity of 10,000 lbs. is greater than the calculated value of 4034 lbs. Step 4 – Catalog designation (see "Ordering" page B-4): PLN • 2403A • PS • B3 • 125 • U • 182TC Selection C-Face Reducers
