COPPER ALLOYS • RESISTANCE WELDING Retention of
Hardness
Brocadur B20Brocadur CCNBBrocadur WK 20 Brocadur CCZ This means thebehaviour of an electrode material which can be warmed within a specific temperatu- re range for a pre- scribed period of time and, after it has cooled to room temperature, dis- plays its original hardness proper- ties. (see figure 1) RETENTION OF HARDNESS ANDELEVATED TEMPERATURE HARDNESS OF BROCADUR®-ELECTRODE MATERIALS 4 The softening point is the maximum retention of hardness temperature up to which a material can be warmed for a brief period of time without any drop in hardness (followed by cooling to room temperature). When processing the electrode material (e.g. soldering, warm bending, shrinking, welding) this limit must not be exceeded. If transgression of the softening temperature limit is unavoidable then, through subsequent solution heat-treating and hardening, the original hardness value can be restored. Elevated temperature hardness This is the hard-ness of the electro- de material at the quoted temperatu- re (above room temperature) and a criterion for the service life of the electrode.
