Welcome to the new Applied Geomechanics catalog of products and services! When I founded AGI in 1983, my goal was to build a company that delivered world-class instrumentation and monitoring services to the engineering and scientific community. Our roots were in earth sciences and civil engineering, and those markets are a major part of our business today. Applied Geomechanics is a leading supplier of professional monitoring systems and services for bridges, buildings, tun- nels, dams, slopes, embankments, volcanoes, landslides, mines and construc- tion projects around the world. As the company grew, the broader industrial and scientific community discov-ered what we had to offer. Today we serve a wide spectrum of customers in those markets, ranging from auto racing teams to surveyors, experimental physicists, radio astronomers and naval architects. During its first two decades, Applied Geomechanics specialized in the design, manufacture and application of precision tiltmeters. Among our earliest custom-ers were volcanologists, who use our tiltmeters to monitor the deformation of active volcanoes and predict eruptions, saving lives in the process. We soon expanded our product line to include low-cost clinometers for OEM applica- tions and general testing and measurement, as well as some of the most sensitive tiltmeters in the world for use on large telescopes and in geophysical research. The inset on the next page describes how our tiltmeters work.In April 2007 Applied Geomechanics became a division of Pinnacle Technolo-gies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Carbo Ceramics, a New York Stock Exchange traded company (NYSE: CRR). Pinnacle is the world leader in hydraulic-fracture mapping and reservoir monitoring services for the petroleum industry, and also a long-time AGI customer. The synergies between AGI and Pinnacle made a merger of the two companies the right thing to do. Pinnacle is a large consumer of tiltmeters for its oilfield work. It also deploys a suite of powerful deformation monitoring services that have many applications in the broader civil engineering marketplace. These include satellite-based InSAR, 3D Tracker
TM real-time GPS, microseismic monitoring and fiber optics. In July 2007 we moved our factory to a new, larger facility in San Francisco near the scenic Embarcadero and Coit Tower. Come visit us when you’re in town!Joining forces with Pinnacle greatly expands the range of products and services that we provide our customers, while maintaining the quality and customer service which have always been an important part of our vision for growth. We now have the capability of monitoring the mechanical behavior of any natural or manmade structure, and selecting the best methodologies for the job from our large suite of monitoring services. In addition, we’ve added a full range of vibrat- ing-wire instruments to our geotechnical product line, including strain gages, piezometers, manufacturer of load cells and extensometers. These expanded capabilities will enable us to serve you better in the years ahead. We hope that you find this catalog a useful tool for selecting the right instrument, monitoring system or service for your next project. We also invite you to visit our website, www.geomechanics.com, which is loaded with application notes, case histories and detailed product specifications. And last but not least, don’t hesitate to call us and speak with one of our experienced sales engineers. You’ll experience firsthand our dedication to quality, innovation and superior service. Sincerely, Gary Holzhausen, Ph.D. Applied Geomechanics Founder and Commercial Director
