It makes measurements of transformer oils routine and easy. Insulation and transformer oils In the chain from production to our electrically powered tools, transformers play a major role. In several steps, they transform the voltage from an enormous level within a power grid to a suitable magnitude needed. Transformer oils feature excellent electrically insulating and cooling properties over a broad temperature range. Manufacturers as well as users of insulation oils will save costs and time due to the high performance, low power consumption, flexible applicability and reliable measurements with SVM™ 3001 and Abbemat. How to characterize transformer oils Density and viscosity at different temperatures from -40 °C to 100 °C are essential for the characterization of insulation oils (e.g. measurements according to IEC 60296, ASTM D3487) and can be measured with the SVM™ 3001 fast and accurately. Additionally, the carbon type composition is an important parameter for transformer oils. Critical product performance properties correlate with the carbon type composition. The Standard Practice ASTM D2140 "Calculating Carbon-Type Composition of Insulating Oils of Petroleum Origin" is used to determine the carbon-type composition of insulating oils. Viscosity, density, relative density and refractive index are the only experimental data required for this test method. All those parameters can be measured with SVM™ 3001 in combination with Abbemat in one go. With only one measurement all parameters including the calculation result for carbon type composition are shown.
